Wow! As I sit down to write these notes, the sense of wonder of what we saw today is slowly fading but still here. Very hard to explain with words. Just nature, sheer nature, majestic nature ... at its best.
We slowly made our way through lakes, forests, as we slowly climbed up and down towards our ultimate destination, the Lysevegen fjord. Slowly the trees became short trees, and then bushes, and then just grass and rocks. Small lakes everywhere, snow patches here and there, sheep in the middle of the road everywhere, the longest one-lane, rough rock walls, downhill, tunnel of the trip ... with a sharp turn inside the tunnel ... and then the tight, steep, and wet switchbacks up and down to the bottom of our first fjord.
What a ride! And, it is also worth mentioning that Pam is the best motorcycle passenger in the world ... totally cool, calm, and one-with-the-bike at all times ... hard to tell that she is even there sometimes ... even when doing tight switchbacks, tight turns, passing .... makes riding so easy and so much fun.
We had lunch on a purpose-built restaurant with a great observation deck at the top one of the granite walls that define the fjord. From there, we had a nice view of the fjord and the switchbacks we rode to get there 3,000 ft. below. Great food too ... a nice chicken ciabatta sandwich on just-baked bread.
The rest of the ride was just as amazing. Our hotel for the night was on the beach overlooking the North Sea. Lots of wind surfers, kite surfers, seagulls, and sand dunes. A nice place to stop after a long day ... has dinner as a group and went to bed.
Tomorrow, we are going to the famous Bergen.
There are cables on that vertical granite wall for people to climb ... for fun!
At the tip of the world on our way to the Lysevegen fjord
Snow in mid-July?? ... and sheep everywhere on the road
Piled rocks everywhere at the top - a very mystical scene
Roads are getting narrow ... barely wide enough for one car
