Day 11 - The Trollstigen and the Fog

Today, we are on a mission to try to see the renowned Trollstigen switchbacks ... we heard that the switchbacks themselves were closed because of a major rock slide so we set out to at least make it to the top.

The girls decided to take the day off from riding and stayed in Alesund so it was just the guys riding out on a foggy, cold, and drizzly morning ...  the coldest day yet ... 50 degrees ... on beautiful roads again ...including a steep granite mountain wall with at least 20 waterfalls next to each other coming down from the clouds!

A few tunnels ... and a climb through forests, rivers, and then rocky winding terrain ... all the way to the promised land ... Trollstigen ... but wait, it is all shrouded in fog!  The visitor center was pretty cool ... great architecture ... water features and walkways suspended over the cliffs.

On the way back, we found a coffee shop (great modern architecture again) built on top of a river with great views ... with cappuccinos and cake with locally grown strawberries ... civilization at its best!

Once we got back, Pam and I went on a nice walk to a new part of town and had dinner at a great restaurant by the harbor with a great view.

Tomorrow, we are heading north to the so called Atlantic Road to explore a new part of the Alesund archipelago.

On our way to the Trollstigger switchbacks

A salmon farm

"We are here - look at the view!" : )

This what Andy is pointing at

Piled rocks (called "cairns") at the top of Trollstigen

The visitor center at the top of Trollstigen

The capturing of a wild river before the waterfall down Trollstigen

The coffee house on the river down from Trollstiggen

This is "CIVILIZATION" ... a cappuccino and a wild strawberry cake in the middle of nowhere

Armando enjoying the views and the food

Buying fresh strawberries from the source by the side of the road

Another cool street in Alesund

The city's municipal playground ... indoors

Our dinner at XL Diner by the harbor
